Andy Summerlin threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns as Samford coasted to a 62-23 win over Western Carolina in their Southern Conference opener Saturday.

The Catamounts overcame an early 14-0 deficit with 10 straight points, but the Bulldogs (3-2, 1-0 Southern) rolled from there as Fabian Truss returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown and Summerlin completed a 52-yard touchdown pass to Chris Cephus late in the second quarter.

Samford pulled away in the second half as Summerlin threw two more touchdown passes, including a 68-yards strike to Gavin Sinclair.

Truss rushed for 60 yards and a score.

Cephus had three receptions for 86 yards and Sinclair added two catches for 74.

Karel Hamilton caught two scores for the Bulldogs, finishing with 42 yards.

Troy Mitchell went 15-of-33 for 202 yards. He also had 77 yards rushing and a touchdown for Western Carolina (1-4, 0-2 Southern).
