Blake Smith bagged his second goal of the season to help the Montreal Impact claim a 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City at the Stade Saputo on Saturday.

The match was scoreless heading into second-half stoppage time, but Marco Di Vaio slipped a through ball into Smith's path on the left side of the penalty area, allowing the Impact midfielder to grab the winner with a shot through Jimmy Nielsen's legs in the sixth minute of added time.

The win tightens the standings at the top of the Eastern Conference table.

Montreal (10-5-5) improves to 35 points to remain level with Red Bull New York, which edged Real Salt Lake on Saturday to keep pace. The two sides move to within one point of first-place Sporting (10-6-6).
