Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Collin Cowgill and David Freese each hit two-run homers in the fifth inning for the Los Angeles Angels in a 6-3 win over the Texas Rangers on Monday night.

Matt Joyce and Kole Calhoun also knocked in a run for the Angels, who snapped a three-game losing streak with a win to open this three-game set in Arlington.

Los Angeles has won 10 of its last 11 as the visitor against the Rangers.

Matt Shoemaker (2-0) had a rough start but responded to throw 6 1/3 innings and allow three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.

"That's a great outing and great adjustments by (Shoemaker)," said Angels manager Mike Scioscia. "Then starting by the middle of the second inning you saw his command."

Ross Detwiler (0-2), making his second start with the Rangers, allowed five runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings. Detwiler was tagged for eight runs -- five earned -- in his Texas debut on Wednesday against Oakland.

Prince Fielder, Mitch Moreland and Elvis Andrus each had an RBI in the setback.

Texas jumped all over Shoemaker in the home first, with Fielder slapping a single into center that scored Leonys Martin for a 1-0 lead. Moreland followed with an RBI double and Andrus knocked in Fielder with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

Shoemaker settled down after the first and got the next nine batters to go down before Carlos Peguero doubled with two outs in the fourth. Robinson Chirinos flied out to end the frame. Los Angeles got on the board in the top half of the fourth on a double off the bat of Joyce.

Cowgill hit a two-run homer that plated Chris Iannetta in the fifth and tied the game at 3-3. Mike Trout followed Cowgill with a walk and Freese chased him home with his third homer of the season.

"The whole inning, everything was up in the zone and out of the zone," Detwiler said of the fifth

Shoemaker was pulled after striking out Chirinos in the seventh, then Cesar Ramos and Joe Smith bridged the game to the ninth where Huston Street picked up his third save of the season.

Calhoun drove Trout home with a single in the away ninth to account for the final margin.
