Samford will open its 2012 football schedule with two home games and wrap up the regular season with a trip to the University of Kentucky.

On Tuesday, Bulldogs coach Pat Sullivan unveiled a schedule which includes five home games.

For the second year in a row, Samford will open the season against a Southern Conference opponent when Furman visits Seibert Stadium on Sept. 1.

The Bulldogs will then have a short week to prepare for a Thursday night game against visiting West Alabama on Sept. 6.

Samford also will have home games against SoCon rivals The Citadel (Oct. 6), Appalachian State (Oct. 13) on Homecoming and Wofford (Nov. 3).

The Bulldogs will go on the road for non-conference games at Gardner-Webb (Sept. 15) and Kentucky (Nov. 17).

They also will play SoCon road games against Western Carolina (Sept. 22), defending champion Georgia Southern (Sept. 29), Chattanooga (Oct. 20) and Elon (Nov. 10).

"The Southern Conference will be as good as any conference in the country," Sullivan said. "Then we finish with a tremendous game at Kentucky, which I know our team will be excited about."

Samford had a 6-5 record last season, including a 4-4 mark in the SoCon.
