Russia's Zaripova wins steeplechase

London, England – Reigning world champion Yuliya Zaripova of Russia won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase Monday at the London Games, completing the race in a personal-best time.

Zaripova won gold at her first Olympics with a time of 9 minutes, 6.72 seconds and Tunisia's Habiba Ghribi finished 1.65 seconds later for silver.

Sofia Assefa of Ethiopia picked up bronze with a time of 9:09.84.
