The Kansas City Royals activated second baseman Chris Getz from the 15-day disabled list prior to Monday's game against the Miami Marlins.

Getz had been sidelined with a sprained left knee he suffered while diving for a ground ball during a game against the Chicago White Sox on July 27. The 29- year-old was recalled from Triple-A Omaha just eight days earlier.

In 53 total games for the Royals this season, Getz is batting .209 with one home run and 14 RBI.

Kansas City also optioned infielder Irving Falu and pitcher Will Smith to Omaha. The team needed to make an additional move to add veteran infielder Jamey Carroll, whom the Royals acquired from Minnesota on Sunday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Smith posted a 1-1 record with a 3.26 earned run average in seven games, including one start, with the Royals. Falu had just been recalled from Omaha prior to Sunday's 4-3 win over Boston.

Carroll, who will be joining his sixth team over a 12-year major league career, is a .274 lifetime hitter who started games at second base, shortstop and third base with the Twins this season. The 38-year-old was batting .230 with nine RBI over 58 games at the time of the trade.
