Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City Royals have acquired veteran infielder/outfielder Emilio Bonifacio from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations.
Bonifacio hit .218 with 16 doubles, three homers, 20 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 94 games with the Blue Jays this season. On Nov. 19, 2012, the switch- hitter was traded to the Toronto along with Josh Johnson, Jose Reyes, John Buck and Mark Buehrle.
In 570 career games with the Diamondbacks, Nationals, Marlins and Blue Jays, Bonifacio has hit .261 with 69 doubles, 10 homers, 120 RBI and 122 stolen bases.
His younger brother, Jorge, is an outfield prospect in the Royals' organization, currently at Double-A with Northwest Arkansas.
To make room for Bonifacio on the 40-man roster, Kansas City transferred infielder Miguel Tejada to the 60-day disabled list.
