Uniondale, NY – Hours after clearing waivers on Monday, forward Brian Rolston was dealt by the New York Islanders to the Boston Bruins in exchange for minor leaguers Yannick Riendeau and Marc Cantin.
Also heading to the Hub is defenseman Mike Mottau, who had just returned from a concussion.
Rolston registered four goals and nine points in 49 games played with the Islanders this season, but was placed on waivers Saturday. It will be the Michigan native's second stint with Boston, with his first coming from 2000-04.
In 1,235 career games with the Devils, Avalanche, Wild, Bruins and Islanders, the 39-year-old Rolston has notched 339 goals and 746 points.
Mottau, a Hobey Baker Award winner in 2000 with Boston College, missed nearly two months of action. He posted just two assists and was a minus-10 in 29 games for New York this season.
The 33-year-old suburban Boston native has totaled seven goals and 51 assists in 307 NHL games for the Rangers, Flames, Devils and Islanders.
Riendeau, a 23-year-old forward, has split this season with Reading of the ECHL and Providence of the American Hockey League. Cantin, a 21-year-old defenseman, has also seen time this year for Reading and Providence.
Both have been assigned to Bridgeport of the AHL.
