Jesse Reed scored 21 points as American U withstood a late Army push to win 58-54 on Saturday.

American (16-11, 12-4 Patriot) used a 15-0 run over 8 minutes to build a 30-16 halftime lead as Army (13-14, 9-7) made just 5 of 20 before the break.

The Black Knights got down by 23 early in the second half, but a 12-0 run cut that deficit to 11, and a 10-0 run a bit later trimmed it further to five with 2:39 left.

But American made 5 of 7 free throws down the stretch and Army missed jumpers on three straight possessions until Mo Williams' trey with a second left provided the final score.

Williams finished with 18 points to pace Army.

Tony Wroblicky added 14 points and 12 rebounds for American, which shot 50 percent as a team. Kevin Ferguson and Dylan Cox added 11 points apiece for Army.
