Real Salt Lake, Fire play to 0-0 draw

The Chicago Fire extended their unbeaten streak to six matches with a 0-0 draw against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night.

The Fire (2-4-10) got their fourth scoreless tie of the season while stretching their unbeaten stretch to 1-0-5. They are also 1-0-4 since technical director Frank Klopas replaced Carlos de los Cobos as head coach.

Salt Lake (6-3-5) had its third scoreless draw and is winless in its last four matches (0-1-3).

Chicago had the better chances in the second half, but failed to beat Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando, who picked up his seventh shutout of the season.

Rimando, who made four saves, was tested by Chicago midfielder Patrick Nyarko from deep on the left side in the 62nd minute and by substitute midfielder Marco Pappa from the slot in the 78th minute.

Four minutes later midfielder Gonzalo Segares fired from the slot, but Salt Lake midfielder Ned Grabovoy deflected Segares' shot over the net with his hands. No penalty shot was called.

Neither team pressed the advantage consistently in the scoreless first half. Salt Lake's Collen Warner had the best chance, a hard shot from 10 yards out, but Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson jumped and got his right hand on the ball, deflecting it over the net. It was one of two saves Johnson totaled in getting his fourth shutout.
