Pirates release INF Aki Iwamura, assign C Erik Kratz to minors

CINCINNATI – The Pirates have released infielder Aki Iwamura.

Iwamura was designated for assignment to the minors on Monday and cleared waivers. He hit .182 with two homers and nine RBIs in 54 games with the Pirates.

Catcher Erik Kratz also was designated for assignment on Monday and cleared waivers. He was sent outright to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday. Kratz appeared in nine games for the Pirates this season, batting .233 with one RBI.
