Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels will miss his scheduled start Wednesday against the New York Mets due to a gastrointestinal illness.

In his place, rookie Tyler Cloyd will be recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and will make the first start of his major league career.

Cloyd was named the International League's Most Valuable Starting Pitcher, posting a 12-1 record in 22 starts for the IronPigs. In 142 innings, the 25- year-old right-hander has tallied 93 strikeouts and just 38 walks, while pitching to a 2.35 ERA.

Hamels is 14-6 with a 2.99 ERA in 25 starts this season.
