Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia had successful surgery on his left wrist Thursday.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Matt Leibman at Newton-Wellesley Surgery Center in Wellesley, Maryland. The surgery was termed a first dorsal compartment release and a tenosynovectomy of his left wrist.

He will miss the rest of the season, but is expected to make a full recovery and will be ready for spring training in 2015.

Pedroia has battled pain in his left wrist throughout this campaign, with the injury having resulted in the four-time All-Star's worst offensive numbers in a full season.

The 31-year-old has hit just .278 with seven home runs and 53 RBI over 135 games in 2014. Pedroia is a .299 lifetime hitter who has finished over .300 in four of the previous seven seasons.
