College Park, MD – Chloe Pavlech poured in a game-high 20 points on Thursday to lead No. 10 Maryland to an 84-62 triumph over 24th- ranked Miami-Florida at Comcast Center.
Tianna Hawkins recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Alyssa Thomas also tallied 18 points to go with eight boards and five assists for Maryland (12-3, 3-1 ACC), which has won two straight and improved to 8-0 at home.
Morgan Stroman scored 14 points to lead the Hurricanes (12-3, 3-1), who had won their last five games. Stefanie Yderstrom and Suriya Mcguire each added 13 points in the setback.
Miami led 25-23 after a Keyona Hayes jumper with 5 1/2 minutes to play in the first, but the Terrapins answered with a 9-2 run to grab a 32-27 edge on Katie Rutan's 3-pointer with 2:15 to play.
The Hurricanes quickly cut it to one before Rutan knocked down another triple and Thomas followed with two free throws to send Maryland into the break holding a 37-31 advantage.
Maryland extended its lead early in the second, as the Terrapins opened the half on a 13-6 run to build a 50-37 margin just over five minutes into the frame.
The Terrapins led by double-digits the rest of the way en route to the victory.
