Foxboro, MA – New England Patriots veteran offensive tackle Matt Light made his retirement official at a Monday press conference.
A mainstay at the left tackle position, the 33-year-old Light played 155 games -- all but two of them starts -- since being selected by the Patriots in the second round of the 2001 draft.
"Matt has really been the definition of a dependable, durable, consistent player that has held one of the toughest positions in the game for a long time and made it a real strong point of our team," said Patriots coach Bill Belichick. "It's been a pleasure to coach him."
Light played in five Super Bowls for New England, winning three championships with the team, and was named to the AFC Pro Bowl team in 2006, 2007 and 2010.
