Panthers ink first-round pick Lotulelei

The Carolina Panthers have signed defensive tackle Star Lotulelei, the club's first-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Lotulelei was selected with the 14th overall pick of last month's draft after a stellar career at Utah. He was a first-team All-America as a senior in 2012 after posting a team-high 11 tackles for loss to go along with five sacks.

In 38 career games, including 28 starts, at Utah, he finished with 107 tackles, 22 1/2 tackles for loss and seven sacks with four forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.

The Panthers also signed their fourth-round pick, guard Edmund Kugbila.

"Star gives us an impactful three-down defensive lineman and Edmund has a lot of natural ability and upside that we will work to develop," said Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman. "We look forward to seeing both players contribute to the team."

Kugbila played in 45 games with 32 starts at Division II Valdosta State.

The Panthers also waived/injured tight end Logan Brock and claimed linebacker Ryan Rau off waivers from Cleveland on Wednesday.
