St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis has been reinstated from the restricted list after completing his 25-game suspension for amphetamine use.
The 2013 MLB home run champion will bat fifth as the designated hitter for Tuesday's game at Tampa Bay.
Davis' suspension, the result of a positive test for the stimulant Adderall, began in September of last season and kept him ineligible for Baltimore's run to the AL Championship Series. The power-hitting first baseman completed his ban by sitting out Monday's 6-2 Opening Day win over the Rays.
The 29-year-old has since received a therapeutic use exemption for Vyvanse, a drug used to treat attention-deficit disorder.
Davis belted a franchise-record 53 homers and also topped the majors with 138 RBI during his banner 2013 campaign, finishing third in voting for the AL's Most Valuable Player Award. He struggled to a .196 average last season, however, and saw his home run total drop to 26 over 127 games.
Catcher Steve Clevenger was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk to make room for Davis on the active roster.
