Notre Dame senior center Braxston Cave will undergo surgery to repair a foot ligament and will miss the remainder of the season, coach Brian Kelly announced Tuesday.

"He is going to get surgery here in the next few days. I don't have the technical information for you other than to tell you that they've got to go in there and repair a ligament, and so he'll be lost for the year," said Kelly.

Cave has a year of eligibility remaining and Kelly indicated he will be back next season.

Since 2008, Cave has appeared in 35 games for the Fighting Irish. He was removed during the first half of last Saturday's 24-17 win over Wake Forest with a mid-foot sprain.

Senior Mike Golic Jr. will replace Cave and start Saturday against Maryland.

"We've got a great deal of confidence in Mike Golic," said Kelly.
