New Mexico State suspends Ross-Miller

Las Cruces, NM (SportsNetwork.com) - New Mexico State men's basketball coach Marvin Menzies has suspended guard K.C. Ross-Miller for his role in Thursday's incident following an overtime loss at Utah Valley.

Ross-Miller threw the basketball directly at the legs of Utah Valley's Holton Hunsaker moments after the conclusion of the 66-61 setback. The crowd had already begun rushing the floor and an incident with some fans, including punches, ensued.

"After reviewing the tape of the game and the events that immediately followed, a decision has been made to immediately suspend K.C. Ross-Miller," said Menzies in a statement Friday. "No matter what provoked K.C., what he did was inexcusable and hence the suspension. It is an honor and a privilege to wear an Aggie uniform and a responsibility comes with that privilege."

The length of the suspension was not immediately disclosed.

"I will wait until I've had a chance to talk with our conference officials and university administration before any other disciplinary actions may or may not be taken," Menzies added. "My initial assessment is that we're looking at two separate components, one being K.C. throwing the ball at Hunsaker and the other being the altercation between the players and the fans who rushed the floor."

Some of New Mexico State's other players, including DK Eldridge, had to be pulled away by coaches.

"I would like to commend my staff for their immediate reaction to engage our players and remove them from the floor," Menzies continued. "We are currently reviewing several sources of video to accurately assess the situation. Obviously, this was a very unfortunate incident and I'm hopeful that we can learn from it moving forward."

Ross-Miller is averaging 8.3 points with a team-best 3.5 assists in 30 games this season.

New Mexico State, which now trails first-place Utah Valley by one game in the WAC standings, plays at Cal State-Bakersfield on Saturday.
