New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Major League Baseball has suspended six players involved in Thursday's brawl between the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox.

The Royals had four players suspended. Starting pitcher Yordano Ventura received a seven-game ban, starting pitcher Edinson Volquez was suspended five games and reliever Kelvin Herrera and outfielder Lorenzo Cain each received two-game suspensions.

Chicago starting pitchers Chris Sale and Jeff Samardzija were each suspended five games.

All six players were also fined by for their actions. White Sox catcher Tyler Flowers received an undisclosed fine for his role in the fracas.

Benches cleared at the end of the seventh inning after Ventura snared a comebacker from Adam Eaton and yelled an expletive at the White Sox outfielder.

Once the teams gathered on the infield, punches began to be thrown and a pileup ensued.

The suspensions will begin Sunday unless appealed.

Rain postponed the conclusion of Friday night's suspended game and Saturday's regularly scheduled game.

Herrera was already appealing a five-game suspension for throwing at Oakland's Brett Lawrie last Sunday, and Ventura received an undisclosed fine in the same dispute with the Athletics.
