Villarreal has signed forward Alejandro month loan from Brazilian side Fluminense, it was announced on Wednesday.

The two clubs just beat the transfer deadline to push the deal through, with Villarreal confirming that the 24-year-old will spend the rest of the season with the Yellow Submarine.

A statement from the Spanish club read: "Villarreal CF and Fluminense FC have reached a transfer agreement for the Argentinean forward Alejandro Martinuccio, who will be a part of the first team until the end of the current season."

According to Fluminense, Villarreal will also have the option to make the move permanent at the end of the loan deal.

Martinuccio joined Fluminense from Penarol in Uruguay last season, but struggled to find top form as he scored only one goal in 15 games.

Villarreal is struggling in La Liga this season as the club sits in 18th place, one point from safety.
