Newark, NJ – Essence Carson had 21 points, Cappie Pondexter scored 17 and the New York Liberty overcame a slow start to beat the Indiana Fever in overtime, 75-68.
Alex Montgomery finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and one critical block for New York, which was down 24-8 in the early moments of the second quarter.
The Liberty outscored Indiana 15-8 in the fourth quarter, with Pondexter making 1-of-2 free throws to tie things up at 61 with 17.6 seconds remaining. Montgomery then swatted a Briann January running jump shot to force overtime.
New York closed out the extra session on an 8-0 run.
Tamika Catchings totaled 21 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists for the Fever, who got 15 points from Shavonte Zellous.
