Kane, Sharp on schedule to recover for Blackhawks

CHICAGO – The Chicago Blackhawks say there's no need to worry: Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp are both on schedule in their recovery from surgery.

Kane had surgery to repair a broken bone in his left wrist on July 19, while Sharp underwent an emergency appendectomy on Monday. The two forwards were key in the Blackhawks' run to the Stanley Cup championship two years ago.

"We'll take as much time as we need, or we feel, but he'll (Kane) be practicing a couple of times a day," coach Joel Quenneville said Friday . "But we won't put him in full contact just yet."

Kane, who felt pain in his wrist during an April 8 game against the Detroit Red Wings, had his cast off during media day, and he can't wait to get back on the ice.

"I got it checked out yesterday and I really have no limitations right now," Kane said. "I think we're going to be cautious for myself about getting into contact right away, but I'll be skating twice a day in practice."

Kane is hoping to play in a few of the preseason games in advance of the regular season opener at Dallas on Oct. 7.

The team said it would be 3-4 weeks for Sharp to recover.

"It should be a few weeks and he should be back and ready to go," general manager Stan Bowman said. "In the scheme of things, it's minor."

Notes: Marian Hossa will be missing from training camp for a couple of days, having attended the memorial ceremony in Slovakia for close friend Pavol Demitra, among those killed in this month's plane crash that killed most of the Russian hockey club Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. ... One of the knocks against the Blackhawks last season was a lack of toughness. Bowman addressed that by acquiring left wing Daniel Carcillo, from Philadelphia. Carcillo will start the regular season with a two-game suspension for confronting officials during a playoff game against the Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins. ... The Blackhawks begin preseason play on September 20, when they face Edmonton in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
