The Winnipeg Jets will host an outdoor game some time in the winter of 2016.

The Free Press reported on Tuesday that the club, and its parent company True North Sports, have agreed to hold a Heritage Classic -- the NHL's premier outdoor contest in Canada -- at Investors Group Field.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, speaking at the Board of Governors meeting in Pebble Beach, California, confirmed that Winnipeg will host a game but did not confirm a date.

Holding a game in the capital of Manitoba at that time will commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Jets returning to Winnipeg after a 15-year hiatus.

This year's Heritage Classic will take place on Mar. 2 at the newly-renovated BC Place in Vancouver, between the Ottawa Senators and the Canucks.
