The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to terms with forward Alexander Semin on a five-year contract extension.

The deal will pay Semin $7 million per season through 2017-18.

Semin has eight goals and 22 assists in 30 games this season, his first with the Hurricanes.

"We're very happy to retain Alex," general manager Jim Rutherford said. "Alex is an elite player and has been a major contributor to the Hurricanes having a very strong top line."

The 29-year-old has totaled 205 goals and 233 assists in 499 career games with the Capitals and Hurricanes. In addition, Semin has 15 goals and 19 assists in 51 career Stanley Cup playoff games.
