Schalke moved two points clear of fourth- place Monchengladbach on Sunday as Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored late in the first half to help the club earn a 1-1 draw at Augsburg.

The hosts could have secured themselves of safety with a win, and things looked good early as Sebastian Langkamp headed home a corner kick in the sixth minute to put his team in front.

But Schalke responded in the 38th minute to level the contest as Joel Matip's long ball put Huntelaar through on goal and the Dutchman provided a composed finish for his 25th goal of the season.

Schalke posed little attacking threat after the break but still picked up a point as the club holds a two-point lead over Monchengladbach with two games to play.

Augsburg is four points clear of the drop zone and needs one win its last two matches to seal a place in the Bundesliga next season.

Hannover 0, Freiburg 0

Hannover, Germany - Hannover and Freiburg played out a 0-0 draw on Sunday at the AWD-Arena that leaves the visitors as the happier of the two sides since it was enough to guarantee survival.

Hannover remains in seventh with the result and is three points clear of Werder Bremen as the club attempts to secure a place in the Europa League.

Lars Stindl had one of the best chances of the game for either side in the first half when he was left one-on-one with Freiburg goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, who produced a save that kept the game scoreless.

After halftime the best that Hannover could do came from a pair of corner kicks that were headed wide of the net by Emanuel Pogatetz.
