London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Chelsea clinched the Premier League title on Sunday for the first time in five years as Eden Hazard's goal in the 45th minute was enough for a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues entered the day needing three points to wrap up the trophy, and Hazard nudged them into the lead on the stroke of halftime when he headed home a rebound after he his penalty kick was saved by goalkeeper Julian Speroni.
Chelsea then saw off the rest of the match to wrap up the victory as they have done so many times this season, giving the Blues a second trophy this term to go along with the Capital One Cup title they won in March.
The early stages of the match saw a determined Palace side put pressure on the Chelsea defense without really carving out any clear-cut chances.
Chelsea also had trouble getting going in the final third, but Hazard provided the inspiration once again late in the first half when he exchanged passes with Willian before being sandwiched by Adrian Mariappa and James McArthur to earn a spot kick.
The Belgium international's effort on goal was disappointing from the spot, allowing Speroni to make the save, but he redeemed himself by beating the goalkeeper with a header on the rebound.
Palace continued to try and get back on level terms after the break, but Chelsea turned them away at every attempt as manager Jose Mourinho brought on defensive substitutions John Obi Mikel and Kurt Zouma to help close out the match.
Sunday's other match saw Manchester City move three points clear of third- place Arsenal with a 1-0 victory over Tottenham as Sergio Aguero scored the lone goal in the 29th minute.
