Green retires as a Packer

Green Bay, WI – Ahman Green has called it a career after 12 NFL seasons, and he decided to do it with the club with whom he enjoyed his best years.

"You don't really think about this day a whole lot, but it's here," Green admitted. "Since 2007 when I left and went to Houston, a big part of me was still here."

Green spent eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers (2000-06, 2009). In 104 games, he totaled a franchise-record 8,322 yards and 54 touchdowns on 1,851 carries while adding 350 catches for 2,726 yards and 14 more scores.

The native of Omaha also departs as the club's all-time leader in yards from scrimmage (11,048), most 100-yard games (33) and most 1,000-yard seasons (six). He also ranks second in total rushing scores.

His best overall season came in 2003, when he exploded for career highs of 355 carries and 1,883 rushing yards along with 15 touchdowns in 16 games for Green Bay.

The Nebraska product was taken in the third round by the Seattle Seahawks in the 1998 draft and spent his first two pro seasons there before moving on to Wisconsin.

Green then spent two years (2007-08) with the Houston Texans before returning to the Packers for his final NFL campaign two years ago.

"My whole time here in Green Bay was awesome," said Green. "I was given a great opportunity to come back here. That took some of the weight off my shoulders for that decision."

In 148 total contests, the 34-year-old four-time Pro Bowl selection compiled 9,205 rushing yards and 60 TDs with 378 receptions for 2,883 yards.
