BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb led 37-14 at the half and cruised to a 77-39 victory over Covenant on Saturday night in a nonconference affair.
Corey Hensley led the Bulldogs (1-1) with 16 points, shooting 7 of 10 from the field. Max Landis, who played a game-high 28 minutes for Gardner-Webb, scored 12 points, and Keith Hartley and Tashan Newsome knocked down 11 each, with Newsome collecting a team-high eight rebounds.
The Bulldogs shot 28 of 57 from the field and held the Scots to 12 of 49. Gardner-Webb outrebounded Covenant 38-24 and forced 24 turnovers.
Gardner-Webb lost to North Carolina at Chapel Hill 76-59 on Friday night in its opener.
Colton McGriff led Covenant, an NCAA Division III school, with 9 points.
