Flamengo closes gap on Corinthians, Vasco

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Thiago Neves scored a hat trick and 1 on Sunday to move within three points of first place in the Brasileiro.

Deivid scored on each side of halftime as Flamengo erased an early deficit and Neves followed with three goals in a 15-minute span as Flamengo gained ground on Corinthians and Vasco da Gama - who are level on 58 points atop the league.

While Neves' three goals gave him 12 this season, Deivid has 15 to rank second in the league scoring chart behind Borges of Santos and his 22 goals.

Last-place America Mineiro stunned Corinthians 2-1 as Amaral notched the game- winner in the 87th on Sunday, and Neymar followed last week's four-goal outing with his 12th goal of the season as Santos handed Vasco a 2-0 loss Sunday.

Fluminense moved to within two points of the leaders Sunday thanks to a match- winner from Rafael Sobis in a 2-1 victory over Internacional, while Davi and Leonardo scored in Coritiba's 2-0 win over Palmeiras the same day.

Federico Nieto scored two goals as Paranaense edged Goianiense 2-1, and Felipe Azevedo notched the winner as Ceara snapped a four-match losing streak with a 2-1 win over Avai in the Sunday's other matches.

On Saturday, Julio Cesar scored as Figueirense defeated Botafogo 1-0 to climb within two points of a top-five spot, Luiz Eduardo's own goal gave Bahia a 4-3 result over Sao Paulo, and 10-man Atletico Mineiro downed Gremio 2-0.
