Top-seeded and reigning Acapulco champion Sara Errani of Italy defeated third-seeded Frenchwoman Alize Cornet in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, to advance to the final round at the Mexican Open tennis event.

Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro also ousted fellow native Silvia Soler-Espinosa, 6-2, 6-1 on the red clay at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess.

Errani, the 2012 French Open finalist and last week's runner-up in Dubai, won eight break points to defeat Cornet, a finalist here in 2008, to advance her third championship of the year.

Errani beat Flavia Pennetta in last year's all-Italian final here.

Navarro, a finalist at this event in 2008, won 5-of-6 break points to reach to her first final of the season.

Errani holds a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series, but Suarez took the last match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, at the Australian Open earlier this year. Errani, however, was victorious in the previous four matches, including a 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 win at Paris earlier this year.

The 2013 Acapulco champ will collect $40,000.
