Miami, FL – The Miami Dolphins have released veteran quarterback David Garrard.
That's according to the Herald on Tuesday, which stated the move was made one day after he returned from a knee injury which hampered his entire preseason.
Garrard took to Twitter to confirm, stating "To all the dolphins fans thx for ur support! Best of luck to all my teammates. Thx for making me feel at home!! Phins up!!"
The 34-year-old had arthroscopic knee surgery and missed the entire exhibition slate. Despite being at the top of the club's QB list at the start of training camp, he slipped to fourth. Rookie Ryan Tannehill eventually got the nod as the starter.
Garrard sat out the entire 2011 campaign. He was cut by Jacksonville prior to the season, then underwent back surgery and was not picked up by another team.
In 86 career games -- all with the Jaguars -- Garrard threw for 16,003 yards and 89 touchdowns against 54 interceptions while rushing for 1,746 yards and 17 scores.
