Denver, CO – The Los Angeles Dodgers placed catcher A.J. Ellis on the 15-day disabled list Sunday because of a left oblique strain.
The move is retroactive to May 30.
Ellis is batting .262 with two homers and 12 RBI over 42 games this season, but has been held out of the Dodgers' last three contests with the injury.
The Dodgers also recalled pitcher Matt Magill and named him the starter for Sunday's tilt versus the Colorado Rockies. The righty replaces Hyun-Jin Ryu, who will have his next start pushed back due to a left foot contusion.
Ryu took a liner off his foot versus the Angels on Tuesday, but still managed to toss a two-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory.
Magill, 23, has started four games for the Dodgers this season and complied a 5.50 earned run average, though he has yet to record a decision. His last appearance in the majors came against Atlanta on May 19.
