Basel, Switzerland (SportsNetwork.com) - Reigning champion Juan Martin del Potro will meet five-time titlist Roger Federer in the final of the Swiss Indoors Basel.
The top-seeded Argentine slugger del Potro beat Frenchman Edouard Roger- Vasselin by a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 margin to reach his sixth final of the year. Del Potro is 3-2 in finals this year.
Del Potro, who upset the Swiss hero Federer in last year's Basel finale, will appear in his third final in three events, having recently titled in Tokyo and finished as a runner-up at the Shanghai Masters.
The third-seeded former world No. 1 great Federer, meanwhile, outlasted Canadian Vasek Pospisil by a 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 7-5 score at St. Jakobshalle.
The 32-year-old Federer, who is a nine-time finalist at his hometown Basel event, advanced to his third final of the year.
Federer is currently seventh in the Emirates ATP Race to London standings for the eight-player season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. If he wins the title on Sunday, he will qualify for the season-ending championship for the 12th consecutive year.
Del Potro holds a 16-7 career mark in title matches, while Federer is 77-35 in finals.
Federer holds a 13-4 career edge over del Potro, but the Argentine has won their past two meetings.
The 2013 Basel titlist will earn $475,000.
