Washington, D.C. (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Pontius struck at the death to lift D.C. United to a dramatic 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy at RFK Stadium on Saturday.
The visitors came close to breaking the deadlock midway through the second period when Stefan Ishizaki unleashed a superb right-footed shot from distance only to see his effort come back off the post.
That near goal paved the way for United to steal all three points with a late winner as Nick DeLeon's cross into the danger area was nodded home by Pontius in the third minute of stoppage time, lifting D.C. to its second victory on home soil this season.
It is the first loss of the campaign for the Galaxy, who remain on five points and will attempt to regroup on April 4 when they head to BC Place to take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
