West Bromwich, England – Steve Clarke was hired as new coach at West Bromwich Friday as the English Premier League club found a replacement for departed former boss Roy Hodgson.
Hodgson left West Brom at the end of the season to become England manager, and Clarke was tabbed as his replacement on a two-year contract.
The 48-year-old Clarke will be a head coach for the first time as his previous roles at Newcastle, Chelsea, West Ham and Liverpool were as an assistant.
"After Roy was appointed as England manager, we cast the net far and wide to identify the most suitable candidate to fill his shoes," West Brom sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth said.
"Steve has worked alongside and learned from some top managers and, most importantly, he knows the Premier League inside out and what it takes to succeed at this level."
Clarke, a former Scotland international, spent his club career with St. Mirren and Chelsea.
"I'm absolutely delighted to be given this opportunity," Clarke said.
