The Kansas City Chiefs placed offensive lineman Rodney Hudson on injured reserve Wednesday, three days after the team's starting center broke a bone in his leg in a victory over New Orleans.

Hudson sustained the injury during the third quarter of Sunday's 27-24 overtime win over the Saints. The 23-year-old, a second-round choice by the Chiefs in the 2011 NFL Draft, had started each of this season's three games at center after appearing primarily as a reserve during his rookie campaign.

To fill Hudson's roster spot, Kansas City signed veteran offensive lineman Russ Hochstein. The 12th-year pro owns 36 lifetime starts over a 138-game tenure with Tampa Bay, New England and Denver and has seen action at center, guard, fullback and tight end during his career.

The Chiefs also signed center/guard Bryan Mattison, who started four games for St. Louis last season and has appeared in 15 games with the Rams and Baltimore over the past two years. He was released by the Rams at the conclusion of the preseason.
