St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The St. Louis Cardinals recalled pitcher Tyler Lyons from Triple-A Memphis to start Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs.

Lyons will take the turn in the rotation left vacant by ace Adam Wainwright's season-ending Achilles injury. Tim Cooney got the first chance to replace Wainwright, but was demoted after allowing three runs in 2 1/3 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies last Thursday.

The 27-year-old Lyons made four starts for Memphis this season, going 2-1 with a 2.91 ERA. He started 12 games for the Cardinals over the past two years.

Reliever Sam Tuivailala was optioned to Memphis to clear room for Lyons on the roster.
