Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - The St. Louis Cardinals made a number of roster moves Friday, activating pitcher Joe Kelly off the 60-day disabled list and claiming catcher George Kottaras off waivers.

Kelly had been sidelined since mid-April with a left hamstring strain and was scheduled to start Friday's series-opener in Milwaukee. He was hurt while running to first base in an April 16 game against the Brewers.

The right-hander was 1-1 with an ERA of 0.59 in three starts before the injury. He recently made three rehab starts at Triple-A Memphis.

Kottaras will join the Cardinals after being designated for assignment by the Cleveland Indians on Monday. He'll help ease the loss of Yadier Molina, who will be sidelined for the next 8-to-12 weeks because of torn ligament in his thumb.

The 31-year-old Kottaras was hitting .286 with three home runs and four RBI in 10 games for the Indians. He had also appeared in 14 games for Cleveland's Triple-A affiliate in Columbus.

St. Louis also optioned pitcher Tyler Lyons to Memphis and transferred pitcher Jaime Garcia to the 60-day disabled list. Garcia will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery for symptoms associated with thoracic outlet syndrome.
