New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt and Denver kicker Connor Barth have been selected as the AFC's top players for the month of December.
Brown, who was named the AFC's top special teams player for Week 17, earned the offensive player of the month award. He notched 33 receptions for 440 yards with two touchdowns to help the Steelers to a 4-0 record that also pushed them to the AFC North crown.
The fifth-year veteran from Central Michigan had at least seven catches in all four games and had three 100-yard performances in that span. His 129 catches were the second-most in NFL history and he set a Steelers record with 1,698 receiving yards.
Watt, who could be in the running for the NFL MVP, picked up his second defensive monthly honor this season. He was previously selected in September and for the month of December led the NFL with nine sacks while adding 24 tackles with a forced fumble and a safety. He also won the award twice in 2012.
Barth grabbed the special teams award after connecting on 10-of-11 field goal tries and all 13 PATs for the Broncos during the month. He posted a pair of games with at least four made field goals, including a 5-for-5 effort in a 22-10 win over San Diego in Week 15.
