Brazilian soccer legend Zico has signed a year contract to become the coach of Iraq.

The 58-year-old replaces Wolfgang Sidka at the helm and he will immediately take charge of Iraq's 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign, which continues on Friday against Jordan.

Iraq, which has only qualified once for the World Cup (1986), has been grouped with Jordan, China and Singapore in the third round of Asian qualifying.

Zico coached Japan from 2002 to 2006 and he has also spent time in charge of Olympiakos, CSKA Moscow and Fenerbahce on the club level.
