San Francisco, CA – The Atlanta Braves placed pitcher Ben Sheets on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation Saturday.
Sheets, who signed a minor league contract on July 1 after sitting out the entire 2011 season, has a 4-4 record with a 3.54 earned run average in eight starts for the Braves this year.
Atlanta purchased the contract of pitcher Miguel Batista from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill the roster spot.
Batista appeared in 30 games, starting five, for the New York Mets this season. He went 1-3 with a 4.82 ERA over that span.
