Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Columbus Blue Jackets signed forward Nick Foligno to a six-year contract extension on Wednesday.

Foligno, 27, leads the Blue Jackets with 17 goals and is tied for the team lead with 31 points in 33 games this season.

"Nick has been an important contributor to the growth of our team over the past two years and keeping him in the Blue Jackets family has been a priority," general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said in a statement. "The fact that we were able to get this deal done is a testament to Nick's commitment to our team and this community and we couldn't be more excited that he will be a Blue Jacket for many years to come."

Foligno was selected by Ottawa in the first round (28th overall) of the 2006 draft. The Blue Jackets acquired him from the Senators for defenseman Marc Methot on July 1, 2012.

The Buffalo native has registered 102 goals and 135 assists in 499 career games.
