ATLANTA – Bill Haas made a stunning par save from shallow water, then won the high-stakes FedEx Cup on Sunday worth $11.44 million in the most riveting conclusion of the PGA Tour's playoff.
One week after a meltdown at Cog Hill, Haas really showed his mettle. He won the Tour Championship over Hunter Mahan on the third extra hole of a sudden-death playoff, the first time the FedEx Cup has been decided in such fashion.
Haas won $1.44 million for the Tour Championship title, and the $10 million bonus for winning the FedEx Cup. He came into the week at No. 25, the highest seed ever to win golf's richest prize.
There was so much at stake that while Haas won $11.44 million, second place for Mahan was worth $1.564 million.
