Berto tops Zaveck to take IBF welterweight title

Biloxi, MS – Andre Berto claimed the IBF welterweight title round technical knockout.

Zaveck (31-2, 18 KOs) suffered a cut near his right eye and had some swelling. He also had blood coming from around the left one as well when his corner advised him not to go back in the ring for round six. The fight was halted prior to the sixth round beginning.

Berto (28-1, 22 KOs), who held the WBC version of the belt from 2008-11, moved to 7-1 in title fights.

This was the first fight in the United States for Zaveck. The native of Slovenia was making his fourth title defense.
