Bourbonnais, IL – The Chicago Bears signed running back Curtis Brinkley to a one-year contract on Monday in an attempt to bolster some depth to a position currently dealing with injuries.
The move comes three days after Armando Allen, projected to be the team's No. 3 running back behind Matt Forte and Michael Bush, hurt his right hamstring in Friday's preseason opener at Carolina.
Brinkley had spent the first three years of his pro career with the San Diego Chargers, compiling 227 rushing yards and a touchdown on 71 carries over 23 total games while adding 19 receptions for 118 yards. The 27-year-old appeared in 10 contests with San Diego last season, gaining 115 yards on 39 attempts while making 12 catches.
To make room for Brinkley on the camp roster, Chicago waived wide receiver Marcus Rucker.
