The Oakland Athletics announced Tuesday their placing of third baseman Brandon Inge on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right shoulder.

The move is retroactive to August 12.

Inge, who had hit safely in 18 of his last 20 games, has split the season between Detroit and Oakland. In 73 games with the Athletics, he has a .224 batting average and .285 on-base percentage to go with 11 homers and 12 doubles.

To replace Inge on the active roster, Oakland recalled infielder Josh Donaldson from Triple-A Sacramento. He is batting .153 with one home run in 28 major league games this season.
