Arizona places P Reynolds on DL

The Arizona Diamondbacks placed pitcher Matt Reynolds on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left elbow Monday as the team prepares to open a three-game set in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.

Reynolds has given up three runs over his last two appearances, matching the number he had allowed over his previous 28 outings.

The 28-year-old left-hander owns an 0-2 record with a 1.98 earned run average and a pair of saves over 30 games out of the bullpen this season.

Arizona also optioned pitcher Tyler Skaggs to Triple-A Reno and recalled pitchers Joe Paterson and Charles Brewer from Reno prior to Monday's series opener.

Skaggs, 21, had his second straight rough outing Sunday, giving up five runs on eight hits and three walks over five frames in a 6-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants.

Over three starts, Skaggs has pitched to a 1-1 record with a 5.40 ERA.

Paterson appeared in six games with the Diamondbacks last season and was tagged for 11 runs on 15 hits in just 2 2/3 innings of work.

Brewer, 25, went 3-6 with a 5.85 ERA in 12 starts with Reno in 2013 and has no major league experience.
