Monday night's game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the 49ers was postponed for 20 minutes due to a power outage in the San Francisco area, and the lights went out again early in the second quarter.

The lights initially went out at Candlestick Park at 8:19 (et) and it remained dark for several minutes before the lights slowly came back on.

The cause of the blackout was an exploding transformer near the stadium, causing the scheduled kickoff of 8:40 to be pushed back to 9:00.

There were no problems with the backup generators until the lights again went out with 12:13 remaining in the second quarter.

San Francisco was leading, 6-0, at the time of the second blackout.
