A water ferry service will return this year to take spectators from the mainland to the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix auto race course.

Organizers announced the service Thursday. The Detroit/ Wayne County Port Authority operated the ferry during the 2012 and 2013 races but says "budgetary constraints" prevented it from offering it last year.

The Grand Prix Ferry will operate May 29-31 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. It will cost $10 for a round trip ticket or $27 for a three-day pass. The trip on the Detroit River will take about 12 minutes.

The ferries will go between the Port Authority Public Dock on Atwater Street in downtown Detroit and the Harbor Master terminal near the course entrance.
